Wreckage of GA-200

Garuda’s Emirsyah doing right by victims, families and the public.

Amidst the succession of disasters Indonesia is experiencing, the GA-200 crash is like the ultimate proof that the word “safety” does not exist in the Indonesian vocabulary.

Mostly because Garuda is, even though it is not exactly the safest airline in the world, the nation’s example of safety transport standards. You can say, the best among the worst. Or in unspun’s words: in the land of the blind, the one eyed man is king.

So damn true.

The illusion that at least there is one transport business that is safe and reliable is now shattered. Fortunately, Garuda’s President Director is acting considerably better than his counterparts in the industry (Adam Air’s executives over KI 574 crash).

However, this is most likely everyone’s no. 1 concern at the moment, what people would like to see is not only apologies, insurances, and investigations but improvements of the system. The fact that Adam Air is still operating without any sanctions imposed to improve its operations is mind-boggling, if not disturbing.

Sadly, not only the one-eyed king is now also blind but everyone in the land is an amnesiac.

On another note, Australian air crash experts (ATSB) begin Garuda inquiry.
